ENGLISH ABSTRACT Prior to considering Proust from an ethical perspective, this study defines the meaning of the term "ethics" through descriptions offered by the Encyclopedie d'Alembert, by exponents of rhetoric and style, and by theorists of discourse. It then attempts a small contrastive study of the author Proust and the Proustian narrator in A la recherche du temps perdu. The objective is to see to what extent the author and the intra-diegetic narrator refer to each other in their ethical essence, and how they set out the various subjects that fall under an ethical theme, thereby making readers sensitive to this most particular aspect of Proustian writing: the virtuosity with which the ethical meets the aesthetic.
